Reverse Osmosis as a process is well proven and widely accepted, as the gold standard for purifying water domestically. It is a membrane separation technique which relies on the unique ability of water molecules to pass through a semi permeable membrane. In doing so the water leaves behind the contaminants and impurities that it has collected in its journey from rainwater to your home tap water. Traditionally the Reverse Osmosis process was slow and wasteful of water as the contaminants are carried away with waste water to the drain. The proportion of the feed water that is able to cross the membrane as pure water is determined by a number of factors chief among which is water pressure and membrane size. Recent advances in technology have enabled “Direct Flow” membranes to be developed. This means that the pure water flow is sufficiently high that it is no longer necessary to store the pure water for use at a later date. This has a number of additional benefits, as there is no back pressure build up as the tank fills. The membrane is always operating in optimal conditions. This means faster, better quality product water and less waste water. The Pro Pure 800 also includes remineralisation and pH plus stages to make the water slightly alkaline. Alkaline water is said to offer some health benefits but also tastes Great.
